ssiThe recent closure of the SSI Plant at Redcar has left the actual site hopelessly gridlocked by legal and financial complications.

Official access is forbidden, at least for the moment, and any attempt to evaluate the place’s heritage potential is currently impossible.

Meanwhile, ‘unofficial access’ is leading to worrying levels of theft and vandalism.

In the last half of the nineteenth century, Teesside was the iron making capital of the world and this site offers one last chance to commemorate the area’s history with something that is truly gigantic, authentic and distinctive.
